PreS-Gr 3–Hope Harris’s album is a delightful combination of toe-tapping, sing-along ditties and quiet lullabies. The 14 original songs, along with the traditional “Five Little Monkeys” and “Down in the Valley,” cross a wide variety of genres from jazz to country and many styles in between. Harris sings silly songs about a boy who plays in an animal band, aliens, and Eddie the otter, as well as numbers about good manners and riding with your seatbelt buckled. Her big voice holds its own on the livelier tunes, and is tempered to blend beautifully on the quieter lullabies. Children will enjoy this collection at home or during story time where songs like “Howdy Hello” will be welcome additions. HOPE HARRIS “COUSINS JAMBOREE”

There’s a little bit of Nashville in the title track of Hope Harris’ first non-lullaby family album.  The song, an energetic celebration of spending time with all the special people in your life, showcases Harris’ joyful, Grand Ole Opry-quality voice which soars to the rafters while the music gets your kids dancing on the floor and shaking their homemade maracas.

The Bear and Mouse have a special affinity for their cousins – cherishing the time they get to spend with their relations nicknamed “The Monkeys” by Pop-pop.  And its this brand of down-home, familiar love song that best describes that affection, the kind only possible when sibling parents stay close – geographically but more importantly emotionally – and make it a point to be together as much as they can despite each other’s differences and busy schedules.

Harris is coming back to Charlottesville by way of New York City.

“I was born and raised in Lynchburg,” the actress and singer said. “After I graduated from the University of Virginia, I hopped on Amtrak and went to New York to go to acting school.”

When singer/actress Hope Harris moved from New York City to Richmond two years ago, it wasn’t long before she was inspired to write.

“Suddenly, all of these songs … just erupted,” says Harris, a Lynchburg native and E.C. Glass graduate. “I started writing like crazy.”
